Wal-Mart's New Coupon Policy - I Tested it Out!
For those that were wondering about the new Wal-Mart coupon policy, I tested it out tonight. I was expecting the worst and got just that.
First of all, I got the $0.97 2 pack of Purex 3 n 1 Sheets and was using the $3 coupon that has no size restriction listed. For each one I should have gotten $2.03 in overage. Immediately the cashier was not going to take them because she was afraid of losing her job over it. So the floor manager came out and tried to tell me I could not use them on the trial size. Once again, I told her that the coupon had no size restriction on it. So she went back to speak with the manager on duty and was gone for at least 15 min. When she came back she told me that she could only take one of the coupons. I asked to speak to the manager. When he came out he explained to me that because it was late, he could not call corporate to verify the use of the coupons. He took my name and number and told me that he would call me tomorrow. In the meantime, I asked if I could go ahead and use 5 of the coupons so I could get the coffee and half and half for my husband and he said yes. In the end, they PAID ME $0.33!!! I still was unable to get 9 of the Purex and I did not get 5 of the Gain fabric sheets which would have given me $1.13 in overage for each one. I plan on making a trip back there tomorrow to get those items and use the overage to get shaving cream and razors for my husband!
I knew that there would be issues because most people don't think that getting overage is "fair". However, no matter how much the item is, the store gets the FULL FACE value of the coupon back. If you think about it, all of the coupons that we have ever used that was over the value and had been adjusted down, the store got the full value back. In other words, it is not "fair" to us that the store profits from our use of coupons. We deserve the full value if the store gets reimbursed full value.
I would love to hear if anyone else has tested out the new Wal-Mart policy and what your experience was.
You can read and download and print the policy HERE. I would suggest everyone print the policy and have it with them when the shop.

I know I use to be able to use expired coupons and went the other day and the girl inspected my coupon! Maybe it was just this day in particular, but most of the cashiers there just scan them, not inspect them first! I asked her if she would still try it, I was sure it would work and she refused to scan it. Oh well.
ReplyDeletemy past two experiences at walmart: 1) I tried to use (2) of the $1/2 for taco bell seasoning, I had 4, @ 0.50 each. The cashier first inspected it and the packages verrrry carefully, and then tried to scan it, but a piece of paper printed out that basically said the item was not purchased, when the coupon clearly stated 'any seasoning mix'. I had her remove them from my order when she refused to make it work. 2nd visit: the cashier noticed i had coupons and asked for them first. she inspected every one and found the item and matched up the sizes and everything before she would even ring up anything. I only had a few, but it took her forever! i cant imagine if i tried to use a lot. I dont think the cashiers know what they are doing
ReplyDeleteExpired coupons.. One of my local WM stores cash register will beep if the coupon is expired. I had one coupon for 1.00 off mac and cheese and they would not take it.
