My $50 a Month Challenge!

I have challenged myself, starting Feb 1st, to only spend $50 for the entire month on Groceries and necessities! I am going to start planning my meals and get ready for my big Feb Challenge! I have lots of stuff stockpiled already in my freezer! I challenge you to join me! Any takers?

If this goes well, then I will continue to challenge myself every month!

Wish me luck, and stay tuned Feb 1st for my first update!

  1. I started by going through my cupbords and my freezer writing everything that I had. Now I have started a menu for February. I should be able to get through the first week without buying anything but Milk, Bread and Creamer!

  3. Fist 2 days I have already spent $3.59! At Harris Teeter I got 2 packs of paper plates and 3 bags of Quaker Rice snacks. Then today I took my son and niece to Burger King and got 2 free kids meals along with a 4 piece $1 nugget and chocolate milk. Only 26 more days to go!

  4. Feb 3rd - It's Wednesday, my weekly shopping day.

I went to Harris Teeter. Spent $6.14 and saved $25.44.

Then at CVS I spent $0.50 on chips, mayo and penut butter and saved $22.69!

So my total spent is $10.23. That leaves me with
    $39.77 for the month.

If I dont spend anything the rest of this week and try to keep my budget at $10 a week then I think I will make it! :)

  5. Feb 8th - I did good this weekend not spending any money! I had two birthday parties so I didnt have to worry about cooking. The gifts were in my gift closet, so I didnt have to buy anything! I did make one trip to Harris Teeter for bread and some Chex Mix, total spent there $2.22. So my total for the month is $12.45. That leaves me with $37.55.

We are heading to Disney on Thursday for 5 days! We are using money saved up so I should not be spending anything while we are there. Of course, we are staying at a condo so I will be taking a lot of snacks that I have been stockpiling for this trip. I am hoping to use my ECBs and RR's to get coffee, milk, eggs and other foods while we are there.

So far, the month is looking great! I am feeling more confident that I will be able to make my $50 goal!

  6. Well, today has been the worst for me spending money. Since we are leaving for Disney on Thursday I decided to stock up on a few things to take with us like Apple Juice, Coffee and snacks. So, I spent $23.57 at Harris Teeter and got 4 whole chickens (Raincheck at $0.49 lb), 10 boxes of Pop Secret popcorn, 2 bags of Chex Mix, 2 boxes of Oreos, 2 boxes or Oreo Cakesters, 2 Motts Apple Juice, Hersheys Syrup (No coupons for that, but requested by hubby!), 1 Gallon of Milk, 1 loaf of bread and 3 Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies. Then I went to Target and got Starbucks Coffee for my Husband for $6.19. So my total spent for the month has now jumped to $42.21!!!!

Ok, so I am no longer confident that I will make my $50 goal this month. However, I am still going to try hard to stay as close to it as possible!

  10. Last day of the month! How did I do?

    Total spent in Feb: $75.02
    Total left om budget: $0
    Over Budget $25.02

It was a lot harder than I thought to make it on $50 for the entire month for all food and Drug Store shopping. I may have to try again with just grocery store budget. I came accross too many great clearance deals at CVS the past few days that I could not resist. So that sent my budget way out of control! LOL!

So next month, March, I am going to take off and go back to my $50 a week grocery budget. Then April I will try again for $50 for the entire month!

    Thanks everyone for following!
