Here is my story of Black Friday 2010:
Well, I spent the night out shopping and I am paying for it today! I left my house at 8:30 pm last night and made my first stop at the Wal-Mart near my home. I scoped out the situation and found 5 people standing in line for the Laptop. I hunted down an employee who showed me a sheet that said they had 123 laptops available. With that info, I decided to drive across town to the other Wal-Mart because it was close to the mall, Target, Toys R Us and several other major shopping locations. When I found the line for the laptop, it was at 4 people. Once again, I found an employee that told me they only had 32 at this location. I didn't want to risk losing a spot so I decided to go ahead and squat. I grabbed my foldable chair, pillow, blanket and snacks and made myself comfy! Not too long after I got there, the line really started to form behind me! We had a situation when an employee told us to move because we were lined up in the wrong spot. Needless to say, that added to a lot of confusion and got a few tempers flared early. We ended up being told to move 4 different times!!! Once we got placed in the correct spot I made myself comfy again. Of course, I made buddies with the people around me so I could take bathroom breaks and do some Midnight shopping for the $1.97 DVDs and a few other things. By 1am I was really tired so I cuddled up with my blanket in my chair and fell asleep. It was really hard to sleep but somehow I managed to get a 30 min cat nap in!
By 2:30 they handed out the tickets, which I thought was a bit late considering that they knew how many they had in stock but still let 100 people stand in line for several hours! Needless to say, some left with hot tempers.
I do have to say that there were some very bold people there. Not only were they grabbing foldable chairs from the sports department and using them, they were also grabbing pillows, blankets, books, drinks and even snacks and food without paying for them!!! At least I was prepared and had everything I needed to get through the night. :)
At around 3am I took another nap but this time I was so tired, I actually slept for a good hour! I woke when everyone started getting excited about the Laptops being brought out on the pallet. Several of those in line spent the next hour begging for them to go ahead and hand them out. At one point a group of young men had gathered near us and were dancing around and playing around and looked quite suspicious. Employees finally came around to move them out which made me feel relieved. Some of those around me were saying that they were worried that these kids were going to steal our laptops!!!
When 5am finally came I was the 6th to get a laptop and headed straight for checkout. Unbelievably, I was able to get right into a line and checkout immediately! I was in my car at 5:05!
I headed to Target and met up with my Brother and Sister-in-law and picked up one item. Since I had a parking place, I decided to walk across the road to the mall and see if I could get any good deals with my coupons. It was 6 am and I was so tired. I couldn't concentrate and left empty handed and went HOME!
Straight to bed I went and slept for several hours. I woke to my husband ready to go do more BF shopping! Of course, I said YES! We had talked about making a large joint purchase for ourselves this Christmas and headed out to get it. We decided to keep this purchase a secret so we could surprise our family so I can't reveal what we got. We went in to the store armed with a competitor's price and ready to negotiate. After negotiations were over we ended up saving over $500!!! My husband is the best when it comes to negotiations!
When we got home, I checked out Amazon.com to see if I could get the TV that I was unable to get that morning at Wal-Mart and guess what? I got it for the same price as Wal-Mart's 32"! After that, I went straight to bed and slept another 4 hours!
Of course, it is tradition to put up our Christmas Tree on the day after Thanksgiving so after enjoying leftover turkey and fixins, we put our beautiful Christmas tree up!
It has been the most fabulous and exhausting day ever! I sit here and look at the twinkling Christmas lights and I am reminded of the wonderful blessings that God has given us! I am so thankful for my beautiful son, loving husband and awesome family!
Now, it's time for more sleep! :)
AWESOME STORY,
ReplyDeleteBlack Friday was rough for me, but ended up on a wonderful savings. At Walmart I was only able to get two of the games we wanted because people had got them early. I left there and went to Toys R Us the line was so long that i left empty handed. At that point I went home to get some sleep since i had not been to bed since Tuesday am. At 2:20 am we got the phone call that our family friend had passed. I then went to the hospital.
I wanted to say goodbye before having to face it at the funeral home.
From there i went back home. Later went out to Belks and got my mom some boots that she wanted.
To end this long draining day I went by Walgreens to see if there were any bargains left and to my surprise there were.I was able to get seventy three dollars worth of product for fifteen dollars but walked out with twenty three dollars in jingle cash.
That put a smile on my face.
