Walgreens Changes .....Voice Your Opinion!

This is a recent e-mail I received from my couponing friend Ashley from Become A Coupon Queen. I agree completely and hope that everyone takes the time to read this and act on it. I do NOT want to see these changes go nationwide!

I am writing everyone in hopes of getting you to help in my quest to stop Walgreens from implementing their Rewards Point Program all across the country. They are still in the test market phase which they have indicated is going well and will eventually roll this out everywhere.
Many of you may not even be aware of what Walgreens Rewards Point Card is. Is it currently being tested in their test markets that consist of Kansas City, Portland and Richmond. The Walgreens Rewards Card is a similar to many rewards cards in that you earn points for purchases you make.  In the case of Walgreens, you earn 10 points for each dollar spend.  They also offer bonus points that you can earn when you make purchases on select items.  You accumulate your points these can be redeemed for various prizes. These prizes include gift cards including a $5 Walgreens Gift Card.  It sounds good in theory, but there are many flaws to this program and sadly, Walgreens is NOT listening.
So here are the negatives to the Program:
  • You earn 10 points for every $1 you spend BUT these points are calculated after coupon total.
  • It takes 2,000 points before you have enough to redeem for a prize so basically you have to spend $200 and remember this is AFTER coupons.
  • Points are only rewarded in sets of 10 so if you spend $2.99 you will only be rewarded 20 points, not 29.
  • NOW THE BIGGIE.....the Register Rewards are very few and far between. Yes, the Register Rewards will basically be weaned off.
Here is an example of this week's RR in the test market compared to the rest of the country.
Applied Nutrition Anti-Aging Total Body Defense, 50ct, $10
Register Rewards: $10

Test Market:  Receive 20x points in lieu of RR

Baby Magic Lotion or Hair & Body Wash, $3

Register Rewards: $3

Test market: Receive 25x points in lieu of RR

NasoGel Drip-Free Gel Spray $4.99
Register Reward: $4.99

Test Market: Receive 10x points in lieu of RR

Motrin IB Pain Relief, $3
Register Reward: $3
Test Market: Receive 15x points in lieu of RR

Poligrip, 0.75 oz, $1.99
Register Reawrd: $1.99
Test Market: Receive 25x points in lieu of RR
As you can see, the test market is basically eliminated from all of the main register rewards this week and clearly the extra points does NOT equate to what the register reward is. This is how it plays out not only this week but EVERY week.
So what am I asking of everyone? I simply want you to please inform your readers, if you are so inclined, of what the Walgreens Rewards Card is and what it will mean if it is implemented nation wide. Ask your readers to please let Walgreens know what they think of this Rewards Program by either sending them an email, writing a letter or a phone call to customer service. Here is Walgreens contact information.

  1. I don't shop at Walgreens very often anyway because their Register Rewards expire soo quickly and their coupon policy is not the fairest. I just do not find them to be as deal friendly as Rite Aid or CVS.

  2. I hardly ever shop there, mainly because their RR system is already horrible in my opinion. I shop Rite Aid every week and its billion times easier to shop there then wags. I do go to wags once in awhile but If they made this change there would be no way I would shop there anymore, ever.
