I am a mother of an Autistic child. He was diagnosed with Aspergers last year at age 9. We went through 9 years of different diagnoses, different doctors and different schools. We had doctors tell us that nothing was wrong with him. It was very frustrating that we knew that something was wrong, but being told the opposite. I went years thinking that his behavior was normal for a child his age. Now looking back, I wish that we would have had better support early on. Please help support Autism awareness!

  1. My two boys, 12 and 10 also have Aspergers. And we are in the process of having our youngest daughter evaluated.

My boys weren't diagnosed until 3 years ago. It was so frustrating always hearing that they were just immature or undisciplined. I had started feeling like I was a complete failure as a parent. But finally our youngest son was diagnosed with SPD by his schools OT and the ball finally started rolling. She was able to get us in touch with people who actually knew how to help. Now, things are better. We have setbacks, but things have come a long, long way.

I second the motion to please support Autism awareness. These children and adults may not have incurable diseases, but they have life long sentences. My youngest asks "why am I a genius trapped in a babies body"? Now how do you respond to that?
